Brush Alumni Association 2011 Scholarships

On May 18, 2011 the Brush High cafeteria was the scene of the annual Senior Scholarship Dinner.  Proud seniors who held a GPA of 3.0+ and their parents/families enjoyed a delicious pasta dinner and dessert.  However, the best “treats” served were in the form of monetary scholarships, given to many worthy seniors.

The Brush Alumni Association was proud to be a part of this celebration, administrating twelve scholarships, which totaled over $10,000!  The first scholarship given by the association was in 1991, when Mr. and Mrs. Alan Skinner and Mr. and Mrs. Don Lamberton (1947 Classmates) established The John Jacque Memorial Scholarship.  This year, the $1000 scholarship was awarded to Dana DiFranco.  Other recipients were:

·         Erin Reynolds and Nicholas Olesen- $250 each, Class of 1990 Scholarship

·         Karly Gessler - $750 Raymond R. Doehring Scholarship

·         Jacob Green - $500 Temple Thorp Koehne Nursing Scholarship

·         Nick DiFranco - $1000 Thomas Murnick Scholarship

·         Taylor Craver - $500 Jack E. Garvey Scholarship

·         Christina Toth - $1000 Diane Benjamin Jones Scholarship

·         Kristen Kowalski - $1500 Junie Speed Davis Blackmore Scholarship

·         Danielle Haugh - $1000 I CAN Scholarship

·         Mario Robertson - $1000 Class of 1984 Scholarship

·         Amber Strickland - $1000 Spike Meredith Scholarship

·         Madeline Schloss - $1000 Brush Alumni Scholarship for Teacher Education

Since 1991, the Alumni Association has award over $110,000 in scholarships.  Presenters at the dinner included:  Linda Meredith Makee (Alumni President) and Jim Makee (Scholarship Chairman), both Class of 1960; Cynthia Doehring (Class of 1970); Marc McCann (Class of 1984; Rodd Gilbert (Class of 1985); and Darla Gross, Dave Gross, and Sue Surovec Elliott, all Class of 1990.

We thank all who have given money to sponsor these scholarships.  If you would like to sponsor a scholarship of your own, please contact Jim Makee, Alumni Association Trustee and Scholarship Chairman at 216-691-2108.  He will be happy to help you establish your own unique scholarship application.  You may always donate money of ANY amount to the general scholarship fund (which goes to the John Jacque Scholarship or the Brush Alumni Teacher Scholarship).

By contributing to these scholarships, you are not only giving to these young alums’ futures, but also to the future of Brush High School, to the South-Euclid Lyndhurst community, to our nation, and to the future of the world!  What could be more rewarding?!
